These hoops offer effortless climbing, stable descending, aggressive cornering, and superb ride quality, all thanks to HED’s unique engineering approach.
The key to the Ardennes Plus’ excellent all-around performance lies in the rim. Based on the original HED Ardennes’ C2 rim, the Plus version replaces the C2, and takes things step further. While the C2 made waves in the wheel world be being a staggering (at the time) 23mm wide, the Plus rims boast a 25mm width (21mm internal bead width), which is nearly half a centimeter wider than some competitors. The benefits of width? For one, the wider inflation profile of the tire on the rim means a larger contact patch while cornering – you’ll feel the difference, and the confidence to lean harder and faster into turns than you ever have.
Cornering is only part of the story, though. The wider rim bed increases the volume of the tire on the rim, which means it takes less air pressure inside the tire to maintain its ideal rolling profile. Less air pressure means a smoother ride, but without increased rolling resistance - and in fact, by some measures, rolling resistance actually decreases.
In addition to their excellent road performance, both the original C2 and the new Plus rims are some of the most popular rims utilized by cyclocross riders, who commonly demand extreme strength and durability. The HED Ardennes LT Plus wheelset comes with skewers, rim strips, and has a Shimano freehub body. The maximum recommended tire pressure for them is 100psi, and the maximum recommended rider weight is 220lbs.
