Description
Here is a famous Nishiki Professional frameset made in 1972. It has the rare Champaign silver with Bahama blue head tube paint! Serial # KK20008. It is in decent structural condition. No dents, cracks, or head tube buckling. It measures 63cm from the top of seat tube to center of the bottom bracket. The cross tube measures 58cm from center to center. The frame dimensions made the "Pro" the famous Japanese lightweight competition race bike. Built of double butted chrome moly steel in it's entirety. Excellent handlers too! Back in the early 70's, the Nishiki Professional was top of the line and a pretty expensive Japanese bike. The good, straight fork spread, measures 100mm. The rear stay spread measured a 120mm ten speed standard and the stays are straight. The frame was designated for 700c wheels and allowed for a very steady cruise at speed. Cosmetically, the champaign silver still shows ok, but does have a myriad of scratches, rubs, touch-up, and color fade typical of a bike that is 45+ years old. Please don't expect a garage queen cosmetically; this bike saw plenty of miles--but the head badge still looks nice! Restore or ride as is. The original downtube decals disintegrated at one time--very common of Nishiki's of the day!--but the remainder are a fair representation of OEM. The full cased rear brake cable was routed through three top tube clamps--as seen on many upper-end bikes of the era. Another cool item stock to this frame are the eyeleted Suntour GS rear drop outs and fork tips. They are missing the thumb adjusters. The Silver and blue paint is nicely accentuated with nice chrome lugs, fork crown, and tips. The lugs are way cool and very unique to this frame! So is the double bladed chrome fork crown! This is a fully chromed frameset, so it can be stripped and polished for an extremely cool modified! The chrome does show some typical pitting normal for a ridden original bike, but it is an acceptable 10 footer IMHO. The headset and bottom bracket English threading is smooth and tight. This is the bike that really gave Nishiki a great race reputation and "The Professional" an immortal pedigree! Really, a ridable piece of Japanese bike history! At this point, you could build this "Pro" into about anything--a Townie, a fixie, a fendered Porteur, or an L'Erotica day sport tourer --very versatile! These Professionals are getting harder and harder to find anymore. They didn't make a lot of them when they were new! This is still a worthy frameset limited only by your imagination.
